Most hybridizers are not going to let go of seed from a planned pod.
Random pods appear from time to time, but are you willing to invest time & effort into some random selfing from a plant with or without name?
Flasking & growing seedlings is a tremendous investment in time (4-16 years) and resources, so it does not make much sense unless there is a clearly defined goal:
- Propagation of a rare species.
- Propagation of an unusual trait.
- Improving on a line of hybrid breeding.
- Trying to eliminate virus from a rare plant.
If you simply want to gain experience, buy two Phalaenopsis from Home Depot and make your own pod. You will have viable seeds in 4-6 months. However, be aware that there is no market for the seedlings you produce from two unnamed Phals.
