Induce keiki from cut section of spike. Substitute for moss?

I have a phal that had a spike that broke this morning. I tried to salvage it by cutting it to the last bloom and putting the flowering part of the spike in water, then I am left with a section with a node on it. I have seen that a keiki can be induced by putting the section in sphagnum moss, but I don't have any. Can I just use paper towels?

Stem propagation isn't easy to do. When it's successfully at home it depends on a very fresh stem, lots of scrubbing and cleaning, and a fair amount of good luck. Unfortunately, your stem has probably been separated from the plant long enough by now that your chances of success are pretty slim.

I figured as much. I did more research and I found that it would need to be at a temperature of 70-75 degrees F. My house is currently too cold for that anyway.
