my first flask!
Phragmipedium Acker's Trinket
(Hanne Popow 'Jersey' AM/RHS [4N] x Waunakee Sunset 'Cherry') from chuck ackers, received 1/19/17
packaged very well, and I placed them very gently on a tray with 1" horticultural vermiculite (very large chunks) and sphagnum on top. I laid the babies very gently on the moss, then lightly covered the roots with more moss. they are placed in my greenhouse in medium light with great fan circulation. minimum temp 68F. I water with RO water to keep moist.
they look great, some big some little, bunches teeny, all with good roots! yaaa!! and thanks mr. ackers!
I will be hovering over them like a momma hen! I hope to put the larger ones in a community pot in a few months if all goes well!

about a week and a half....and I decided to pot some of the larger seedlings....I found a couple little 2" pots and cleaned them, put some of the smaller bark paph mix in the bottom....mixed it with sphag and put the larger ones in....they seem to be fine so far!

You are far braver than I. Flasks scare the bejeezus out of me. Good luck, and it looks like you're off to a great start!

hahaha!! brave has nothing to do with it, I just don't know anything about them so I have no fear!....they really look pretty big to me, I didn't expect anything this big....having a greenhouse to keep them in helps too. I want to try a cattleya next....

I decided they might all be more secure in pots....and then I aint fooling with them any more I promise!
the first 3 that I potted seemed fine...I did lose a couple leaf tips where I tried oh so gently to move them...but no more than that...they really seem tough and happy! they are in 3" pots half filled with paph mix, mixed with a little horticultural vermiculite, with sphag on top...the plants are swathed in sphagnum...

so, I didn't fiddle with them for a week or so...I am so bad! I have to put my fingers in them! yesterday, I thought they looked too leggy, so I put a little fine bark around them to support the stems of the bigger ones...very gently! I think they look better this morning....
