Default Free seed pods

Hello! I was wondering if any of you flaskers want any seed pods. I have a few on my Bassavola "Little Stars." It is the best smelling flower at night! I have no idea what it was pollenated with (about 20 potential papas in the orchid house). I guess I can just cut them off, right? I never had a pregnant orchid before .

Hey! I would love to try one - I'm recieving my media from OSP soon and I'm sure I'll have room to try this one I love little stars! Don't cut anything off though - I think it's easier to ship dry seed than a green pod....so just let it mature.

I think you can just leave them on the plant...when they start turning a bit yellow, fold a coffee filter in half and put it around the pod with stables, so when the pod bursts the seed will be caught inside the filter.

Susie, How far along is she? I have a pregnant B. little stars too! One capsule was pollinated on 12-15-07 and there are two more from 1-15-08. So one is at about 60 or 70 days and is still green and really swollen. I've heard that this genus should take anywhere between 90-120 days to dry and split. Not sure about this specific hybrid. Probably pretty close as it's a true Brassavola. I'm going to wait and record the time for the first one to dry, then try a green capsule at about 90% mature. I'll let you know.

Calvin, I should have some dry seed pretty soon if you're interested.

Royal - that would be awesome. Do you know whether the daddy is also little stars?

I have some sedirea japonica maturing real nicely...I only have 2 pods, one of which I'm going to flask. The other one though, I can split into several pinches of seed for trade (interested in formosae dends, some phal species)

Dorothy -- that's a good list. No Brassavola. I did find another list somewhere. Lots of varieties, mostly species (like 40 pages!)

Calvin -- B. 'little stars' x self. Any international shipping issues we need to worry about? Just curious. I'll try to figure out the PM thing (still new here).

For the record - I found this one but didn't find Brassavola nodosa x Brassavola cordata there but give it an extra check in case I missed it
ORCHID SEED

I did find this here - Brassavola pod - OrchidTalk Orchid Forums - Grow Orchids!
"120-150 days for dry seed for brassavola, not any specific brassavola."
I hope this helps

I have no idea when my plant was pollenated, but there are 3 pods. It was blooming before Christmas so I better get ready. It has been very hot (over 90 on Sat-Sun) so it could pop. I will try the coffee filter trap. What a great idea! I have no idea who the daddy is. We have lots of butterflies and there were Vandas and dens blooming for sure, but I have so many hybrids.... This could be a "heinz 57 little stars!" Hehe
