Mounting flasked seedlings
Hello all:
I've deflasked a few orchids over the years, usually either compotting the seedlings or occasionally potting them up individually. I've a flask of Slc. that I'd like to put the largest seedlings directly on mounts, but I've no experience doing this--any recommendations or thoughts? I'm planning on using bark, and had thought that I'd simply set them on individual mounts, set all the mounts (horizontally) in a tray, and let them grow in place (i.e. without tying them) until I see roots adhering to the cork. I figure after that happens I can move the mounts into an upright position and go from there.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,
Adam

I have no experience but I'm thinking Mother Nature does it all the time without over-thinking it!

I think CambriaWhat did this with some Cattleya seedlings a while ago. I don't know how it went in the end.

I have put many Brassavola hybrids on mounted from flask with no problem. I have a GH that helps seedlings get rooted in cork, they do need more moister then if in compots. Have also mounted several other types of seedlings with very few die offs.

I think mother nature is willing to accept a much lower survival rate than we would like though :/

I STRONGLY recommend starting them in 1-2 compots. After you get them going, and pseudobulbs maybe 1/3 of the size to BS, you can mount them.
