Propagation by canes

Hi guys,
my dend spectabile has some old leafless canes and I'm wondering if it would be possible to cut them off and try to use them to create new plants. I saw that a lot of people do this with dend noble, and I'd like to know if I can do the same with my spectabile. I would cut the old canes into pieces and then I'd place them on a bed of sphagnum moss.

I just leave my old canes alone.
If I was to guess, I'd say every other one of my old cane has produced at least one keiki for me.

But mine are all mounted.
That could make a difference.

Spectabile is a giant one, may I ask you how did you mounted yours? Or are you talking about a noble?
Mine is potted, and at the moment has 4 leafless canes. They're quite small, not taller than a finger. They're not giving me any problem, but considering how tall this dendro will become, these little canes will disappear soon.

I'm not sure which Dend mine are.
Purchased years ago as a discounted discount (50% off already 50% off).

Some of my canes are almost a foot long, not including the flower stalks.

Most of mine are mounted in the "Y" of tree branches. Originally mounted when (potted) tree was living but I've cut them out when the tree had to go.

My original-parent Dend (which came in a pot) is mounted to that coconut board(?) and it's been on it for 10/12 years now.
A little moss and fishing line worked for years.
Re-did it few year ago with moss and strips of the white plastic netting that bare-root orchids come in at HD and Lowes.

very nice!
surely it's different from mine, looks like a kind of noble or so.
I can't mount mine because it's a large size, plus, in nature it grows vertically and I prefer to pot it.

Nice pics. Looks like a den phal. Mine grow vertically and I pot them in wide shallow pots, fine bark. They are getting BIG. Like you say, over a foot tall, and then there's the spikes....

They have responded well to a regime of Klite. One pot has something like 30 flower spikes, tho they aren't all open yet.

The 3 "groups" I have in bloom at the moment, actually all my Dend's, come from one plant that was in a pot when I purchased it.
I tried to mount a few canes to see if I could get them to grow vertically--because I saw someone else who had success and thought "why not?".

The 3 "groups" are from dropped canes I mounted in a large potted Ficus tree.
The tree had to go (root, growth, size issues) so I took a chainsaw to it to get the 3 out but leaving them attached to "Y" and branches they grew on.
All the Dend's I mounted in trees eventually grew new canes that wanted to be vertical.
I just put 2 small groups in a different potted Ficus.

The next cane(s) that drop/need to be removed I'm planning to pot.


Now the ones you've shown, bil, will have me going out and looking to add to my Dend collection.
That white is truly nice to look at.
I'll be looking forward to the pics of the pink when it opens.
