Encyclia tampensis pod question!!
Hello my name is Alex and I live in central FL. I have a specimen sized encyclia tampensis that put on a pretty good show this year. It had easily 150+ flowers on it. While if was in bloom bees I'm assuming pollinated a lot of them and they are forming pods. This species grows wild near here so the pods should have no prob forming completely but here's my question: can a plant have too many seed capsules forming on it?? I assume it takes a good deal of energy to make seeds so it would seem 30+ caps would be too much. But maybe not? Maybe? Of that's the case encyclia seeds for anyone who wants them but like I said I do g I know. Any help would be great! Thanks -Alex

Without a photo of the plant, it is impossible to comment on whether it is capable of carrying 30 seed pods.
The fact that you are asking leads me to assume that the plant might not be that large. If so, remove 10-20 pods, and let it carry the rest.

Well I'd imagine since it's a native, it should do just fine with the amount of seeds it has, especially since you say it's a specimen sized plant

Thanks SFLguy. That's kinda what I figured but didn't want to stress the plant. When I do see them on oaks around here they tend to only have 6-10 pods. Thanks a lot, if u need enc seeds let me know. Thanks again SFLguy

Fair orchids: I have no clue how me asking equates to the plant not being large. But thanks anyway

SFLguy yeah that would be great. I had a few off my alba tampensis sent to a lab for flasking but I'd like to give it a try myself so having 25+ pods should help. Ha. But if any wants any let me know. Thanks

I wonder if sticking some roots from the mother plant on a tree would increase the chance of germination there
