Ancient Leggy Paph growing a keiki?
I have a paph that got very unhappy when I repotted it. (I have since learned that they don't like to be potted into bigger pots) It has stayed alive and just gotten long curved stems with a few leaves on the end of each. I was in a major car wreck, then a year recovering, then working and haven't had time to do anything about it other than water it to make sure it stayed alive. Then today, I noticed small leaves growing out of the stem, very far away from the end where the regular leaves are. It looks like a keiki is forming but I didn't know that paphs could reproduce that way. And just noticed when I took the picture that there is another one on the other stem.

Can't tell from the photo but paphs can make new growths as stolons growing outward from the old growth, maybe that is what is happening? Or, since these are sympodial plants, it's just making a new growth from the base in the usual sympodial fashion.

Any plant can get growth from any node that has a living meristem. New Paph growths usually come from a node very close to the base of an old growth. In this case, with the stem elongated we see a growth coming from a node that would probably normally be in the base of the plant and hidden by leaf bases. Some Paphs are more likely than others to get these elongated stems, and when they do it isn't terribly unusual to see a growth like this. I don't think I would call it a keiki since it isn't a growth from an unexpected place, but from a normal place that is abnormally exposed.
