Is this a keiki on my dendrobium? Female
Thumbs up Is this a keiki on my dendrobium?

Hi Y'all!

I'm Veronica and I recently purchased a dendrobium nobile. While watering my orchid yesterday, I noticed what appeared to be a root coming out from one of the canes.

Can anyone tell me if this is a keiki or not? I've never had a dendrobium before, so I'm not really sure!

Here is a macro shot of my orchid's possible keiki:

Thanks!

Yep Keiki it is. You know for nobile you need to give it a winter rest with almost no water and cool temps, if you can provide it, for it to flower right?

Yay, thanks for confirming

I purchased it while in bloom and I read that once it is in bloom, I could begin watering it. Is this information incorrect?

If it is already blooming then yes. Water regularly will be ok.

Great!

By chance, do you have experience taking care of keikis? I know I should probably leave it on the mother plant until more roots develop, but should I do anything in particular to help the keiki grow?

Let grow on the cane for at least one season or the roots are 6 inches long then repot in sphagnum

I always wanted to mount a nobile keiki in a tree bark. That's one of my projects.

New update on Nobile keikis. Mine are a year old now, and all of a sudden the leaves are turning yellow and falling off. I don't know what's going on with them. They have looked great up to now. Any ideas ??
