Default Cattleya cernua seedlings

In Spring 2012 we had a project on this plant. I got mine to bloom and selfed the blooms. To cut a long story short, I picked up the flask of seedlings recently.
I couldn't find any advice or opinion on deflasking/ growing on, so I improvised. Hopefully this works as I had the mother plant's growing conditions in mind.
1) I purchased 4x 4 inch clear plastic saucers and made plenty of holes in the bottom and sides of each ( for drainage and aeration purposes )
2) I also got 4x 4inch clay saucers to stand the plastic saucers in. ( for cooling and rapid drying )
3) A layer of seedling bark was placed into each plastic saucer. Then the seedlings, then a wrapping/layer of sphagnum moss.
Points to note - what a mass of roots each seedling had ! Difficult to separate. I dread doing so when these are larger. I put a couple in 2 inch pots. These compots will eventually be mounted - 3 plants per mount. So the plan is to go from saucer to compot to mount for the others as soon as large enough. You may wonder why the plastic saucer first - well these plants are perfect for mounting and the roots fasten to mounts very quickly. That's the last thing I wanted with clay saucers which many people use as a mount for these plants. BTW - the biggest plant has leaves of about 1/2 inch. They are truly a nightmare to separate and plant.
Pollinated : 15 Oct 2012
Flasked : 2 Feb 2013
Deflasked : 16 Feb 2015.

I was in that project, too. As it isn't fragrant, I would never have bought it otherwise but they are nice little orchids and I have become rather fond of it. I have not managed to kill mine yet and it blooms every year around Christmas.
Good luck with that flask. I look forward to watching the progress with this project you have undertaken.

What cutsies!!! I lost my plant from that project, it got rot and died... I have a really really hard time calling this a Cattleya, for me it will always be Sophronitis....

I didn't even notice 'Cattleya' and did not realize that it has had a name change. Wow. I need to be more alert. Hmm, that means that C. luteola is no longer my smallest Cattleya.

There so cute. This one is on my wish list. I don't think I want to mount it as I am not sure I could deal with a mounted orchid. Good luck.

Very nice looking seedlings, congratulations! just hope to get some yellow results.

One question did your sow the seeds yourself, or you sent the seed pod to some lab?
