I have a C. forbesii seed pod on my plant and its about three months along. I have been looking around on the internet for suggested ripening times and I have found anything from 4-11 months. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I should look for when it is ripe? I want to catch it before it splits open.
I've only just got my first successful pollination underway with a capsule about 4 months old I think. It's on a mini Catt. What I've been told by others is to keep an eye out for the capsule/pod to start yellowing on both ends. I'm sure someone else will chime in. Here's the link I was directed to which might give you some idea.
On OrchidWiz it says - for greenpod harvesting - 217 days.
Maturation does seem to depend a lot on your own cultural conditions; there is no other explanation for such vast discrepancies. I had a cernua that was supposed to take 170-200 days for green podding per OrchidWiz and AOS, but took 70 days to dehisce.
Best to watch for colour change on the pod from round about now.
