What % H2O2? I sterlized with 5% Hydrogen peroxide last time I flasked (this past weekend), but that was after a bleach sterlization for 10 mins lol (So far no contamination, but its only been 3 days). How long did you let your seeds sit with the hydrogen peroxide?

How many flasks did you flask and have you had any contamination yet?

I used a 10% solution of peroxide and let it sit for 20 minutes(shaking it around every so often).

I've sown 10 flask total. 5 at a time and had contamination in one. I may have had contamination in another but i treated it by scooping out what may have been infected and using peroxide on the area i scooped out from.

I use a fish tank with holes in the front so my set up isn't the best. The contamination seems to be limited to the last flasks I sow. I think the contamination is from air movement.

Thanks. I had tried flasking a few years ago and it was a total failure. I decided to give it another go recently and now i have protocorms from 2 species orchids and one of my own hybrids i did just for fun.

This is great. I would like to know what size fish tank did you use and did you feel you had enough room inside working. I tried using a plastic storage box as a glove box but its just to limited in seeing inside. It fogs up so you can't see what your doing sometimes.

Hello, I am new to this forum and was curious about a few things about orchid seed sowing and germination. I am currently in the middle of trying to grow from seed...I have done the research on techniques on how to sterilize and sow orchid seeds. I watched a video on YouTube on how to sterilize seeds...The video I found most informative was how to sterilize terrestrial orchid seeds... would this technique work for all kinds of orchid seeds? Also about how long after sowing do they usually germinate?

I use a 40 gallon that i bought during one of petcos dollar per gallon sale. for the front i use corrugated plastic wit holes cut out. to cover the holes i use rubber gloves cut into a square with a hole cut out and taped to the plastic.

The sterilization should be the same as far as i know. As for how long until they germinate, it depends on the plants you are working with and the method you are using.

Greenpod method as i understand can take longer than from dry seed.

in my experience that is correct. My Greenpod took two and a half months to germinate and various dry seeds have taken only one month to germinate. :)
