everyone!

Now the deal here is that; for my year 9 'personal project' which go's towards half my end of year marks. And for a primary sourced reference I thought it would be perfect to get in contact with one of you to help me with my studies. So the person I'm looking for I need them to be very knowledgeable and experienced with flasking. It would also be great to hear from people who make their own media or flask in their own home. I am going to experiment with flasking, and I have a whole year left to do it ( it's due halfway through next year ). So if you wanna help me out here I'd really appreciate it!! also I will be posting my studies on here for those who are interested!

Giving another and moved this to the propagation section in case that helps people with the right experience to see it.

Dendro - there are a couple of people who have tried home flasking, I think the threads are in the propagation section.
It would probably be quicker to PM them with your request, than wait for a response.
I know of a commercial flasker - website is OrchidOrigins - who also may be able to help.

I have done flasking once.

I used the flasking method in this Orchidboard sticky:
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...seedlings.html

I also used a home-made flasking medium, recipe obtained from the blog for Dokmai Gardens, Google the phrase "how to grow orchids from seeds - kitchen style" and Dokmai, you will find it.

On another forum (Orchid Geeks), I have a long-running thread on my efforts to grow my own orchids (Cattlianthe Golden Wax) from seed. I posted there recently, it should not be hard to find the thread (my user name is different on that site). That thread tells you everything that I did, or tried, and what worked, what did not work. I have a few tiny seedlings still growing after 10 months. I am sure that well under 1% of the seeds that germinated have survived, but still consider the experiment a success, at least so far.

I will ask the moderators what the policy is on linking to other online forums and blogs. If I can, I will post links to my thread and to Dokmai.

Default Links provided!

Now that I know what is OK to post, here are the links I mentioned:

About my ongoing first attempt to grow orchids from seed:
Seed-sowing from scratch (my first try) - Orchid Forum Orchid Care

Dokmai Gardens blog entry on growing orchids from seed, flasking in your kitchen: How to grow orchids from seeds – kitchen style | Dokmai Dogma I used the "easy method" I referenced before (sticky on Orchidboard), but I did use the orchid medium referenced by Dokmai Gardens. If I were to change anything regarding their recipe, I would use slightly less water (maybe 95 to 97 percent of the recommended water). I might also add a tiny amount of fertilizer, like 1/8 teaspoon per gallon of pure water and use that water to make up the agar.

If you are going to flask some orchid seeds yourself, better find some seeds quickly! It takes a long time for seeds to mature for most species, and it can take a long time for seed to develop in flask. Maybe you can get some guidance form you local orchid society members regarding what seeds to try (some types germinate and develop faster than others). Someone may be able to provide seed that is already mature.

Good luck with your experiment and your paper!
