dracula vampira flower spike ...
Wondering if anyone can enlighten me, on how long it takes from when a spike is initiated to having an open bloom, particularly dracula vampira in this instance..... purely just out of curiosity, or should I rather say, being impatient .....

No idea, but I can tell you, whatever you do, do NOT change the conditions the plant is in or the spike will abort.

Been growing it in the same conditions for gowing on two years , and has grown well since, just about doubled in size now. Can confirm one defenate spike, diggin down though the medium, and two shorter growths wich seem to be bending downwards.

Congrats!! My dracula Lotax hates me... I just moved it into a terrarium and it's finally happy. I've had it a year.
I can't wait to see pics of the blooms!! Vampira is one of my favorite draculas, but I understood that the plant is quite large and I have limited space in my collection.

My Lotax is mounted and I let it get too dry a few months ago. That's when I realized that mounted plants weren't for me. I set up my terrarium around it and picked up a few plants I had been wanting to try, but didn't have conditions for and now it seems to be doing ok.
How are you growing your dracula?
Google says it takes approximately a month for the spike to bloom. Hopefully someone with more experience with draculas will chime in as well!

Me and mounted orchids dont really get along all to well, except for cattleya's. As for the dracula growing, its potted in a mixture of spagnum moss, coconut husk, bark chips and some small stone, grown inside a cool tunnel experiment I have going on, basically just consisting of a small pond pump, water resevoir and a normal 3 speed desk fan ( diy evaporative cooler or sorts)
Vampira hangs just infront the wet wall effect ive created, to stay cool and have high humidity, and I keep it moist all the time aswell. Enjoys some good company with other pleuros and masdevallia..... will try add a picture to give you an idea of the growing area I utelize...
vampira is the plant at the back in the odd yellow basket, although I have lifted it a bit so it hangs above the other plants..

Very nice setup! I did something similar with my terrarium, but I have only miniatures in it, I love that yours gives you a lot more room.
