Hi all, first post on this forum though am very comfortable with growing orchids as with many other types of plants.
I live in a warm temperate coastal part of Australia (Near Byron Bay in the state of NSW).
Made my own Lamina flow cabinet
cheap though works like a charm i.e. no contamination as of yet.
Am still playing with what type of containers to use ? have used disposable food storage plastic with great success, conventional flasks with great success, & now with screw top plastic flasks again with great success & have not used vents on each type to find they were not necessary.........still got great results.
If any one wants my flow cabinet design just ask?
My post is about Dwarf Epidendrum hybrid seed? Can any one tell me if there is a supplier in the US who would sell seed of their hybrids (dry seed)? & how many people like the dwarf reed stem Epidendrums?
In my climate these orchids flower well & the common forms are in flower in many gardens 12 months of the year, the dwarfs most ly flower in winter.
The problem I find is that much of the stock available in Australia has virus, & although I have procured a collection of quality clones am having trouble getting the better quality clones from the over seas to add to the local gene pool.
At present have at least 1000 seedlings of a local clone crossed self ie Epidendrum Topaz Rose 'Rosie' which is a little tall for my breeding program, though still an excellent plant.
Hope to produce more seed this winter, which may be avaiable for sale or swap?
have attached some images to give an idea of what I mean.
