Chingruey's Fancy cross

deflasked these today.
I microwaved the sphagnum moss and the fine bark seedling mix.
These plant trays work really well - first layer is the seedling mix and then topped up with long-fibred sphagnum.
Seedlings were soaked in an aspirin mix to loosen them up. The media sinks and the seedlings float ! These were difficult to separate ( unlike my Nobby's Amy ) as the roots "stuck" together. I damaged a few roots pulling them apart - only time will tell whether fatally.
I plan to harden them off for 1-2 days and then place them under my lighting set-up.

The original roots grown in the flask are very brittle. You are better off transferring the lot to a single pot (4" std or 6" bulbo pan), in a suitable seedling mix.

After 6-12 months you can then separate the seedlings, and move them to individual pots or mini compots as appropriate.

If I ever get flasks, which I just might very soon , I would also like to remove the agar gel. It is recommended by many for good reasons.

Anyhow, are these supposed to be the red fragrant phals??

Chingruey has so many great hybrids and I want some.

CRF isn't fragrant but the pollen parent is. I hope to get red/orange and in-between, with a lot of blooms ! And fragrant would be a bonus. But any cross is a crap-shoot
As for removal of media - I have read that you don't have to, but I have never left it on. Soaking in aspirin water, some people even add vitamin B, helps loosen the roots......and my thinking with aspirin is that anything extra for the seedlings helps. I don't spray with a fungicide just yet.
As of today, my plant stand nursery is officially full !
