I think I have a spike..........it looks like one, the classic mitten shape ! Its an early Xmas and B/Day present ! And at under a year from deflasking - they were deflasked on 19 Feb 2014.

Now with my luck, the spike is going to shrivel....

this spike is really sloooowww growing......but the good news is at least its still there ! Its about an inch long.
None of the others are spiking. I am adjusting my lights duration time to simulate fall/winter so will see if that has any affect.

Here's to it starting to grow faster. Can't wait, I can only imagine what it must feel like with your own seedling blooming for the first time. It exiting enough for me just to get something to bloom for the first time.

I 100% second No-Pro-mwa, that's got to be a good feeling. I've got some spikes on couple of my NoIDs that have been taking FOREVER but I assumed in my case that this is due to changes in humidity. Reading this I wonder if they're just slow...?

Either way hope your spike makes it and doesn't take the rest of the year!

getting there.......slowly.
I actually thought that the bud had blasted a couple of times. It was very yellow and looked shrivelled. I hope that there is yellow in the bloom itself. CRF has a large bloom and so does the other parent. Makes me wonder if such a small plant can have a full-size flower. Well, I am going to find out either way soon ! The downside is that we are going away for Xmas week.......and with my luck...

We'll say some Christmas prayers for you, that would make me nervous too. My keikis that were maybe a year and a half old when I potted them up at the beginning of the year bloomed this year (one in the summer, the other just opened one recently while the mother is in bud) and they had smaller and less flowers. Maybe that is just how the youngins are!

Were you expecting some yellows? Hoping for even?

most CRF progeny - at least those that I have been able to see photos of - have the CRF colour influence and range between purply to reddish, regardless of the other parent. The progeny blooms are very similar to CRF in terms of size, number and shape too. CRF is the seed parent of mine and the mother is supposed to pass along many of the characteristics relating to the bloom.
I am hoping with my cross to get something - anything ! - different regarding colour, but retain the bloom size. The bud started out very yellow and has gradually turned greener. Its not the same color as the CRF buds are usually at that same stage so I am holding out hope. My ideal would be a 2 tone mask for this cross. However, what ever the outcome I am going to be happy.

If you are driving and not flying since its your first bloom I think I would make sure the car is warmed up and take the orchid with me. Pack it up nice and bring it with you because we all want to see it to. Take lots of pictures for us please.
