I looked at another site and eyeball averages for Dendrobium seem to be 200-240 days to dry pod (splits and splills seed EVERYWHERE) about 150 days for green pod sowing. If there is one available I'll try one pod for green pod, I am trying to learn. I have some paph and neofinetia seed in flask now. I would like the practice, seedlings back is a given.

I don't know how long does it take for this Den. So it may take about 5-12 months to get a mature pod, then 8-12 months to get mature seedlings strong enough for de-flasking. If nobody wants it let me have one. I want to try it for fun. Hope everything are going well I will send you back tiny seedlings in vitro after 3 months. Cheers.

OK I have one left. What should I look for to determin when I should remove them?

Sorry John, I only have 3 and they are spoken for, but if someone should decide not take one I will give you next dibs.

I prefer a ripen and dry seed pod so I can sow again and again if there is contamination. If seeds don't grow in one media I can try another media. With green seeds I have only one chance to do. After 3 months,you keep an eye on the pod. If you see it a little bit dry and turn light yellow you need to cover right away it by a coffee filter. By that way, the pod still grows as normal if it not mature. If it bursts seeds still there or fall inside of the coffee filter. Normally NEXT DAY or FEW DAYS pod will bust. See following pictures. Keep in cool place and no light. Cover in coffee filter (not zip lock, pod not dry yet so could grow fungi and mold ) put in an envelop and send it to me. Wait for 4 months and you will got dozen of seedlings.

I have just one question, when do you cut the spike?

I would love to germinate one, if there are any left, and I'll take a green pod. I just finished flasking an Arundina graminifolia, about an hour ago. If you'd like, I'll send you back a flask, after re-plate. I, too, am in the early stages of my flasking hobby....so practice is good. As far as ripening time, I've noticed the pod begins to look a tiny bit dehydrated when it is getting close to opening. The skin between the ribs (on the pod) starts looking thinner, and it looks like it will burst soon. If the stem (at the top of the pod) starts to yellow, cut it quickly! This means it will be opening very soon. Thank you for the offer....even if I'm too late, and good luck.

You can cut it when you see it's light yellow (see the picture). Or you wait for few more days to make sure it bursts.
