Hello,
This is my second time trying to flask using a a different media. (P668) This post will be about the steps I used and also the media preparation.
Thing you will need:
Pressure cooker
150ml of 100% Coconut water (no additives)
850ml Distilled water
P668
Measuring cup
Tin foil
Rubber bands
Baby food jars
Funnel
Pot (was very easy to clean off after so don't worry about wrecking the pot)
OK, Now for the FUN stuff!!
Step 1: Pour you favorite drink
Mine was Gin, Tonic and Guava juice this time!! YUMMY!!
Step 2: CLEAN up your kitchen and get everything you will need.
I am using P668 for my media.
Step 3: I brought the 150ml of Coconut water and 850ml of Distilled water to a boil and dumped in the package of P668. (I also had my pressure cooker on to boil.)
Also I tried to do a pH sample of the media after. The media is so dark you can't get an accurate reading but it looks close to where it should be. Also the package said "No pH adjustment" so I took it for its word.
Step 5: I simmered the media for about 5 min and then poured some into the baby food jars. (I had 24 bottles to do, so I had to do this process three times. DON'T forget to leave the media cooking on low so it doesn't solidify)
Step 6: I placed the lids ontop, NOT tight you don't want them to seal, and placed a tin foil square on the lid.
Step 7: I folded down the tin foil and placed them in the pressure cooker. (Not on the bottom, make sure you have a spacer)
Step 8: Once the pressure cooker started to whistle I let it boil there for 25 min.
Step 9: Once everything cooled down and I was able to open the pressure cooker. I moved them over to a pre-warmed plate so the flasks won't crack. (CAUTION: These bottles are SUPER HOT!!)
Step 10: Once everything cooled down, I tightened the lids and put a rubber band around the bottle.
Step 11: Once the the media has solidified, I moved them to a location with light, but not direct light.
And there they will sit for a week to see if there was any contamination before I sow the seeds on top. Also, if you have been following my other posts, those are the green pods so far about 1.5 months after I pollinated them.
