Well, that's what I found out it is after thinking it was a rooted plant for probably almost a year. The poor thing was going downhill little by little and I could not figure out why.
I finally decided to unpot it to look at the roots. What roots? It was merely an unrooted cutting. I am rather unhappy about this, of course. I do not have any records as to where I bought it either. Another finding was that although it appeared to be well watered, the sphagnum moss it was in was not getting moist where the cut part of the stem ended.
I would like to save this plant and ask your advice, please. Also, what is the best potting medium for this plant. Thanks.
Beverly A.

It should root easily. I just yanked mine out of a pot and stuck it in a smaller one and it is rooting...again. I grow this in a loose mix of sand, miracle grow orchid 'bark', perlite, and a little peat. If it doesn't root easily, try a seedling mat underneath. Good luck!

Cut a plastic bottle in 2, install leca then sphag, the vanilla bit slightly in the sphag (at least one knot, up to three), shut the bottle (you can keep the cap away, just look at the sphag is it keeps slightly wet), keep it warm around 25 if possible, and with some light.

I've just restarted my africana with this after it decided that rotting was a good way to salute spring. Results in 2 weeks in my case.

I have mine in African Violet soil w/ orchid bark mix and it is growing like mad right now. I have bright light and spray it every couple of days and weekly weakly fertilize. Good luck!
