When to repot a Sophronitis coccinea Male
Default When to repot a Sophronitis coccinea

Happy Easter everyone!
I have a 4N Sophronitis coccinea that I crossed with itself and it has a nicely developing seed pod on it. The problem is that the plant really needs repotting - it has several shoots starting over the side of the pot. I have a mount to put it on, but I don't want to lose the pod. Should I wait until I harvest the pod to move it onto the mount, or should it be okay just to go ahead? I have bred several orchids around the same time and have three different varieties that have formed pods, but these are the first ones I have bred. Any information is appreciated. I am inclined to wait, but I really hate to have the plant arch over the pot and then have to be flattened onto the mount.
Thanks ahead of time!
Steve

I would wait..........it shouldn't be that long........
My cernua took about 90 days to mature the pod, it will be interesting to see how long yours takes - as a coccinea comparison.

Thanks for the info - I have decided to wait; I would rather work with a bent plant than lose the pod.
I hope mine will mature that soon - it seems to be coming along nicely, but it was bred on January 12th and it doesn't look near ready to harvest - will keep you updated!
Thanks again -
Steve

If your media is still good, then you could just put the plant in a larger size pot (minus the old pot) and add new media around the sides. That way the Soph would have a larger pot with no risk to the pod.

If you want to change the media, then I agree with orchidsarefun and would probably wait.
