Soph Cernua - Seed Capsule/Pod
I have 3 developing since 15 Oct 2012. They are bead-shaped instead of cigar-shaped, which is interesting.
Anyone know approx how long they take to mature ?

congrats on the pods! most cattleya types develop rounder pods, as opposed to a phalaenopsis with its more elongated pod. i didnt find anything specidifcally on S. cernua, but for S(c). coccinea its 75-100 days for green pod harvesting. for dry seed, just keep an eye on it when it gets close to 75-100 and harvest as soon as its about to split or it has tiny splits... i recommend harvesting it green though.
i got the info here
Harvesting Times of Orchid Seed Capsules for the Green Pod Culture Process

thanks. I will keep a close watch. Hopefully the pods keep developing and are viable.
I am probably going to sow some seeds onto mommy's roots.....just for fun.

do it!!! you have three pods, so you could send one away (or to a member here asking for seed in return for sending you flasks), experiment with vapor sterilization or home flasking, and put the 3rd on the orchids roots! (or send me one and let me experiment )

Cool! I'd love to see the progress on these and what they look like when you harvest them, I have absolutely no experience with this type of stuff and it's fascinating to me.
