i have a new pod on a dendrobium and i want to know if i can use water for a medium, or something cheap that i should have at home. but if anyone can tell me a site with good medium at a cheap price that would also be very helpful!
us aj's at the orchid seedbank project. cheap and very professional stuff. i think he sells it on ebay too. no mixing crap in. you just boil and stir and then sterilize for flasking. idk about the water flasking though. never seen it
There was an AOS article about using pretty much standard fertilizer solutions with minimal additives, soaked in perlite.
You don't want to use a liquid, as the seeds could ultimately sink and drown; the agar in traditional media and the perlite in that article serve to give the seed and prototcorms mechanical support.
