Everyone else has a stem keiki on their phals. Even my friend who never waters her orchids has a keiki. I WANT A KEIKI!
I have a mini phal with two spikes, one of which has just finished flowering. I can't afford keiki paste, so im using coconut water. My question is - is the spike more likely to keiki if i cut it above the biggest node (The third one up) or not? please, i need answers.
you can cut anything that is not green....if the tip had browned and dried then cut it
keiki paste costs only $5 a 10ml plastic round canister on ebay free shipping....
There is a technique of cutting a spike just above a node to stimulate the phal into sending out a side spike. I guess you are talking about a similar idea to stimulate a keiki. To be honest I have no idea if that can be done or not.
Like you I've never had a keiki on a spike (I have one phal prone to basil keikis).
Sorry, I've just been surprised with keikis on Phals, dendrobiums, encyclia and others. I've never tried for one. They are fun and rewarding to grow though
