Red face bare Dendrobium canes how to root them

I have acquired some Dendrobium canes on ebay with no roots and looking bare and dry. I put them on a bed of damp sphag moss but within less than a week, they had white strands over the bits in contact with the wet moss and looked like they were rotting. I brushed off the white strands and washed them but now don't know how to get them to root. I also had a couple of bare leaves which I understood would also root but the leaves have gone black and brown and fallen off. Please, how can I salvage this lot?!! Many thanks. Pam

wash the canes well...then leave them on a bright but shaded windowsill and dont wet them just leave them alone until they produce roots...you have to be patient...it takes weeks ...
then as soon as you see roots about 3 inches pot them in a coarse bark medium and water them once a week and place them in that same area it started to grow
I dont think the leaves will produce roots...only the canes
assuming that what you got is still living...and not dried up dead canes...
now why would you buy a bare cane from Ebay when you can add some more money to buy the same specie potted and well established...gambling on those bareroot canes can be a losing proposition

Hi Bud, thank you for your useful advice. I'll do that
Now, you ask why I bought these, well, I actually thought they already had some roots. The pictures were not very clear and the seller's command of English was a bit iffy (a UK seller). I did get about a dozen for the princely sum of £4.99 so it was worth a gamble. I do believe he sold them in good faith. Thanks again. Have a great day!

I will put backbulbs with bad roots or no roots at all in a clay pot and let them just sit there. I will spray the pot daily to give humidity around the plant and typically in a few weeks to a couple months they will put out a new growth, which will start to sprout new roots. Good luck!
