Hello.

I think that the choice of the cultivation vessel is very important and that's why i'm asking you what you prefer.

A year ago, i used baby jar food but something didn't get as expected and many of them contaminated. I read at the internet that the lids of these jars doesn't close good enough.

Also another point is gaseous exchange for photosynthesis.

What is your strategy and what kind of vessels do you use ?

If you have in mind a supplier for the vessels you use please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

You can use smaller jars for starting the seeds. Just seal the jars with plastic wrap. Then, put the lid on. This will seal the lid better.

When you need to re-plate you can use a larger jar (mason jar, plastic food jars, or something similar).

For gaseous exchange I usually see people drill a very little hole in the lid and cover with a bandaid.

Those bottles, the mouth seems to be a bit small for easily removing plantlets.

What I have seen one commercial grower use are mason jars (canning jars), these have a 2 part lid - the screw ring and the sealing plate. This grower replaces the sealing plate with a filter disc; fungus growers use the same technique. See the bottom of this page for synthetic filter discs

Are you certain the contamination was because of the baby food jar lids, and not a problem with your flasking method?

Or, if you don't want to use jars, you can buy plastic, vented tissue culture flasks. The only contamination you'll get is stuff you accidentally introduce in there yourself!

I used with a laminar air flow and that's why i believe that the problem is in baby food jars.

I can't help you for suppliers of those, but I can look. I use some, but since I work in plant science in a university, I have easy access to them via a friend who cultures some plants in vitro.

Hey, I have used the baby food jars with caps and plastic wrap for many years with no problems. I tried to take a picture for you tonight, but my camera isn't cooperating. I will try to get it posted tomorrow. It is a very easy method and reasonably cheap.

Here is the picture I promised of my baby food jar flasks. These are all Phal stem props, but I also sow seed in them.
