here is ,my attempt at flasking! first try EVER. i tried it with a technique of vapor sterilization that i read about here on OB. this will mainly be a picture documentary :P

the seed is [Lc mini twilight x (lc drum beat x lc why knot)] X SELF

i decided to do some experimenting with different containers. i used some mason jars which have already been proven to work. and to experiment, i used a wine bottle (without a cork), and an assortment of different types of tubberwear.

all my supplies laid out!

for media is used phyto-tech p723

media all mixed and poured just waiting for 5 minutes for it to set and cool

media set and seeds sprinkled in... i also tried to do two Phal stem props, just to see what would happen (if anything)

for sterilization, each flask was covered with plastic wrap and had a small hope cut in the wrap. on the hole i put a cotton ball soak is Sodium Hypochlorite (bleach). then covered with another sheet of plastic wrap that did not have any holes.

and then waited for 3.5 hours (DO NOT LET SIT FOR MORE THEN 5 HOURS! THE SEED WILL BE KILLED ALONG WITH ALL THE BACTERIA AND NASTY THINGS)

now we wait for 3.5 hours

the cotton balls were removed from between the two sheets of plastic wrap and the lids quickly closed.

the flasks were then labelled

i did this saturday april 7th. so far there has been no contamination, except for in the jar that i just poured all the extra media in (but i forgot to sterilize that one)

keep us informed please, 3-4 weeks seems to be a turning point, it was for me. Unfortunately I got sterilisation right, but the bleach mixture killed the cuttings. I hope that the vapour method is better.

I can't wait to hear how everything works out. I would love to flask somethings.

Good luck! I look forward to updates on the progress. Did you wait until the seedpod split or did you harvest it earlier?

thanks for your interst! i hope it works too because its really my only way to flask anything, so my fingers are crossed! or else i would have to abandon all my dreams of breeding phalaenopsis

thanks!

the seedpod split like .4 cm in one tiny spot before i harvested it. i was told it doesnt really matter with this method though, because the fumes sterilize the whole lot

Good luck! I can't wait to see how everything goes! I would love to flask. I always thought it would be way more complicated than that. Thanks for showing us your experience!

Me too, I'm curious how it goes! I've been meaning to try Roby's technique, but the seed I have is in my mother's fridge in France, and I totally forgot to bring it back with me when I went for Easter. So it'll have to wait until August now!

You should try it Camille! I only used half the seed I have an in sending the other have to glengary who said he would flask it for me. So there isn't much to lose with this.

I'll keep you posted!
