Default Phal. seed: Viable or not?

Anyone know what healthy, viable Phal. seed looks like? I recently havested some from a split pod. It is medium brown in color but looks fine otherwise. Wondering if its supposed to be more light colored.

If you have access to a microscope, you should be able to see that they are dark on the inside of the seeds, like an embryo, and not clear. If you can see through them, they are not good.

You can't tell seeds are viable or not by color. One way to test the viability of seeds:

"Seeds collected were soaked in filtered triphenol tetrazolium chloride (TTC) solution (1 g in 100 ml phosphate buffer, pH 6.5-7.0) for 48 hours in darkness at 20ºC and rinsed five times in sterile distilled water. Seeds were agitated between coverslides to remove the testa and viewed using a light microscope. Embryos completely coloured pink to red were considered viable, whilst seeds with embryos partially coloured, white, yellow or brown were assumed not viable....."

You will sow them anyway so why worry about viable or not. The following is the picture of Phal. seeds I sew a month ago. Cheers

Looked at my seed through a 10x microscope. They have an opaque skin arround a darker center much like those in the photo above. Guess I'll have to give 'em a whirl.
