Default Dendrobium kingianum x jenkinsii

Theoretically impossible to cross, belong to two different sections.
Only a single plant.

That is impressive. I cant wait to see what the blooms will look like and if they also have the fragrance of the parents...

Very interesting, roby. There are definitely a lot of intersectional crosses in Dendrobium but I haven't previously heard of one involving these two sections. I've read that some species (not sure which) in section Callista have been crossed with Phalaenanthe and Spatulata, which are interfertile with Dendrocoryne so maybe not totally out there genetically...

Anyway, I really look forward to seeing this bloom!

I would like to repeat the crossing this year. I hope to have same luck.
Only 1 plant is too little, if anything goes wrong in deflasking ...

If two sections of the same genus are incapable of breeding, I would think it should stand to reason that they should be identified as no just different sections but different genus altogether. - IMO It gets very confusing when plants of the same genus can't even be crossed, yet plants of totally different genera can. - makes my brain hurt.

On a side note - Roby, did you sow this using the same gas fumigation technique you previously posted about?

Tsuchibuta. also this sow was made with sodium hypochlorite fumes , and also the 3 replant.

From 2010, I only use this technique.

I was just considering the cross made, I wonder how culture is going to affect the ability to bloom. I would assume a dry period throughout the winter, however I never let my kingianums get completely dry where I completely withhold water from my jenkensi. Hmmm - also I wonder if temperature will affect color intensity and flower size as well as it does with delacatum (kingianum x speciosum)

This piqued my curiosity about intersectional crosses with sections callista(jenkensii, et al) and dendrocoryne(kingianum).
There are recorded crosses between callista and the following sections:
phalaenanthe
spatulatum
latourea
nobile
formosum
(and now apparently dendrocoryne)
There are recorded crosses between kingianum and the following sections:
phalaenanthe
spatulata
calcarifera
(and now apparently callista)
This is an incomplete search, so take it for what it's worth.

Tsuchibuta, I also do not know how to cultivate it.
so I want more than one plant, so I can do several tests.

the good thing is that it is developing many vegetations, probably the next re-potting I can divide

msaar, I made the crossing only for curiosity, and see if and what characters inherit from their parents, may give rise to a insignificant thing
