Smile

It was in 1998 The last time I've used commercial orchid media for seed sowing from Hausermann. It was good and I had very good results.

The orchid pic is one of my very fisrt hybrids (Rhynchonia).

I have used several recipes, from coconut water and fertilizers up to 5 different types of fertilizers; From Agar to Carrageenan and Corn Starch (the worst gelling agent).
But this year I'm preparing my own formula based on Murashige & Skoog Basalt salts and the results are better than any home made formulation I ever made. Don't belive me? Just read the image from botanical review.

If anyone is looking for strong plant development, High in-vivo success (deflasking), forget Home made recipes.

Tomato and banana are good for slow growth and low percentage seed germination. For bets results use lower concentrations of Tomato, banana and pine apple juice, but replate as often as you can, say every 40 days minimum, every 30 days is better.

If you are going to use fertilizers, my sugestion is to look for low concentration formulas (20-20-20 is worst. 10-10-10 is better).

I have no doubt you are right and this works, but who has time for doing replates this often. Sometimes my plants are lucky to make it out of mother flask before I just make compots I get so behind.
