I haven't had to deal with this before so do I just wait until the roots have developed or can I cut it off now?

I don’t grow phargs but I certainly wouldn’t cut that off. Let the plant do its thing for now.

It's not very clear in the pic but the plant on the right is growing on a stalk. There are signs of roots growing. I'll leave it a while until I see what it's doing.

I have a stolon growing from my Besseae var Flavum and I have been told that it can be removed if you wrap sphag around the root base and let them grow into it a few inches in length. The sphag should be kept moist by keeping the whole ball encased in a plastic covering. A little tricky but if you manage to do it properly you can then remove the stolonous growth and plant it into the medium properly. I haven't done this myself yet as it is in bud and rather annoyingly it is starting a new growth from where I was going to wrap it in sphag. I shall wait until flowering is over then wrap the roots then.

Thanks for that. I was thinking of this this afternoon. There are a 'lot' of roots forming so it should root up OK. I'll give it air layering a try and see if it works.

I just bought a Phrag. Hanne Popow that has new growths like that. My other Phrag. doesn't grow that way! I've left it as is for now.

Hi folks. Phrags will not grow roots unless they are under or touching the compost. They will not grow air roots so build your compost up so that the crown of the plant is touching the surface of the compost.
