thank you all for the comments and well-wishes
i used slightly bigger pots this time (compared to where the whole plant was formerly potted) so i won't have to repot and disturb them again for quite some time

Default update on "divided my cattleya into 3"

hi guys! remember this story?
well guess what.. i have new growths! on all three divisions! one division even had 2 new growths! all in just barely a month!

after dividing them up last month, i hung them on the branches of our mango tree (getting 6-9am morning sun), watered everyday (made sure they drained well) and just let them be (thinking it would take a few months for any change).. so you can imagine my joy when i took a peek this morning (had to use a stool to check since they're hung above eyelevel).. the growths are about 1cm each.. will take pics when they're about 2cm

i know this is nothing new to the gurus, but for a newbie, this means so much... i didn't kill my catt by dividing it!

thanks for all the advise, just sharing

Dividing a Cattleya will often result in immediate new root and pseudobulb growth.

After a Cattleya flowers it will begin to put out new roots and new pseudobulbs. Division speeds up the process.

This is why it is recommended to re-pot after flowering. You would not have gotten results so quick if you did it six months from now.

The plants are also thriving from the new bark and extra aeration around the roots, which results from the new potting mix.

Your plant needed new potting medium. It was ready for a re-pot back into the same pot or slightly larger with new medium. You should change potted plant medium every other year.
