Trisodium orthophosphate

Has anyone any information on using trisodium orthophosphate to sterilize cutting tools used in repotting orchids.

From what I have read on Google it is (a) poisonous (b) very corrosive (c) used in foodstuffs including Coke and Pepsi (d) used in cleaning products etc etc.

Nowhere can I find any reference about using it to zap viruses or fungi.

Any help would be appreciated and yes, I was given some to try.

Yes, it is an excellent soak-type disinfectant, and was recommended for that purpose for years. A Physan or chlorine bleach soak is just as-, if not more effective, and easier on the tools.

It - and many other high-phosphorus chemicals - are being taken off of the market here in the US, as the excess P gets into waterways and can lead to eutrification of lakes and ponds.

Ray, what concentration/mix ratio would you reccommend with the 2 different chemicals; bleach and physan. The goal being to kill virus.

2 ounces per gallon and 2 teaspoons per gallon, respectively.
