Sedirea japonica x Phal equestris
Any reason this wouldn't work? I happen to have both I'm bloom and want to try my hand at polinating. Seems like it would be interesting to see what it would look like

hmmm ... well, if this cross doesn't already exist, I would expect there is a reason why - either they can't be crossed, or they can be, but comes out a dud
hmm so I searched sedirea x phalaenopsis on the board, and got some matches, as well as on google search (sorry - seems I an unable to post the links right now) :s

I know that the cross sedirea x phalaenopsis in general exists, but I have a feeling that it may not be a very easy thing to do. Crossing 2 different alliances is usually not very successful. Even if there is pollination there might be few seeds, or few viable seed. I would go ahead and give it a shot, you may get lucky. I would try making the cross in both directions, one may take more easily than the other.
And if you get seed, can I have some?
Found a pic on OB of Sedirea x Phal stuartiana: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...-japonica.html
FYI, Sedirea x Phalaenopsis = Sediropsis

There is no reason why it shouldn't work. It is the same as crossing a phal and a vanda, and there are quite a few vanaenopsis hybrids. The only potential prob would be the culture, with which you would have to experiment to find out.

i saw that sediropsis ( thanks for finding the name! ) on here a while ago, thats the first time i even heard of the cross. so thats actually that sparked my interested.
of course you can have seed, if you are in the US at the right times.
i cant flask, so i would have to find somebody. i was planning on ( after i found out if the cross is worth trying ) makling a post saying anybody who wanted the seed could have it as long as i got a flask of it.
i looked on google and couldnt find any of the cross

I'm pretty sure I've seen pictures of a Sedirea japonica x crossed with a Phal. I had not thought of it as a possible cross genus hybrid before that.
Maybe it's the same one you saw Bob. I thought that was equestris but while I remember it was japonica I'm not 100% on the phal in the cross.

I've found a post about someone having a problem with the stuartina in the cross, but that's not the one I saw.
The one I saw was flower pics, next to plain sedirea japonica flower pics (the flowers looked to me like Sedireia japonica until I compared the two when you could see they were actually quite different.)
I'm starting to wonder if I saw it on facebook not here as a search has not come up with what I saw. I'm seeing what I can find there, but there is no way to search for pictures on there so I'm having to guess who might have posted it.
