Can anything be done with this Dend cane?

Bad kitty! Knocked over one of my Dends and broke off this cane. As you can see from the pic, I've had it stuck in moist sphagnum moss for a few weeks, but other than keep the end of the spike green, nothing has happened. I figured I must be going about this wrong so I pulled it out.

I've read something about slicing and dicing and laying out on wet moss, but I'd like some more detail on that process - or any other - that might enable me to get some keikis off of this, or resurrect this cane in some way.
