Default Keiki size for separation o Dendrobium nobile hybrid

Well, the title says it all really - how large does a keiki have to be before one can separate it from mum and pot up?

My rescued Noid hybrid is growing strongly and had flowers and a keiki form this autumn. It is now about an inch and a half long, with three roots about 3/4 inch long at most. It is at the top of a cane and there is no easy way to introduce the roots to medium. I currently grow mum in hydroleca.

Help/advice much welcomed

thanking you all in advance

It really depends on the plant, but I usually separate the keikis when they have one inch roots.

Yes, make sure there are enough roots at least
1 - 2 inches long before separation. It wont be detrimental to the parent plant or the keiki to leave it on until there are enough roots to support the young one. Remember to keep the keiki stable in the growing medium until it gets hold of the container.
