The endosperm may make the seeds bigger, but I don't know exactly how much larger.

Endosperm is like the yolk sac in chicken eggs.

When an egg (the soon to be seeds) gets fertilized in a plant, double fertilization occurs in order to form an embryo and endosperm. In seeds without endosperm, I don't think there's double fertilization. This is the simplified version. I don't know how to explain the more detailed version, so I'll leave it at this.

Yes, because the endosperm is lacking, that's why they need the fungus to sprout.

Vanessa, Michael, Philip

I can explain something about Cattleyas and Lealias. They are epiphytes in the majority, grow at the branches of trees, and the Atlantic Forest trees are tall and close to each other. Some grow over the top branches, some over the middle branches. The adaptation of sending away lots (some times milliions) of seeds, is a response to the difficulty of falling over a branch, as the wind transport them. At the branch, they have to deal with short nutrients, and the existence of mycorryzae fungi is a solution to transform and transport nutrition load.
Other plants have larger and heavier seeds, as the easy target is the soil. At the soil, protection againts predation is offererd by the tegument, and the seed counts with a nutrient reserv, both contributions to heavier weight.

Thanxz for sharing Eduardo,
Can someone do something similar for replatting protocorms plus how to do a spread plate efffectively would be nice.
Have protocorms all packed up and would be great to actually see how to do replates or spread plates, this would be a huge boost..

Thanxz again

Coconut juice is the endosperm of the coconut which is the seed of the coco palm.
