I never have. Haven't heard of anyone using UV either. That doesn't mean it wouldn't work, but be careful - eye damage is scary to an orchidist.
I would advise just getting a cheap pressure cooker. Time tested heat sterilization is cheap, easy, reliable, and if done properly, safer than UV. Just my .02.
edited to add: Thinking about it a little more, I can see a possible issue. The effectiveness of UV sterilization (of a liquid medium) should be dependent upon the turbidity or opacity of the medium. Additives like charcoal might limit how much or how deep the UV is able to penetrate. Just theorizing here...
