Help!! I just broke off a little eye.
Oh, b.......r. Was repotting my Cattleya, trying to be very careful on cleaning out the old potting mix from the roots, had hold of it, and bingo, I broke the new eye that was growing out of the rhizome. What do I do? I cut off the broken bit and put on some fungicide. Will a new eye come up next to it.

I doubt a new eye will grow from right beside the old one but I am sure it has another eye close ..perhaps on the other side ...mine all seem to make eyes in pairs one on each side of the rhizome....
They make secondary eyes just for this reason.Be paitent and dont beat yourself too much we all do such things and feel your pain

Thanks Johnblagg for your help. The other size of the orchid, looks like it hasn't got much life. But I will be patient, even if it takes a couple of months. Also, when should I start the fertilising thingo?

I knew I should have read that message I sent through, I mean the other "side" of the rhizome, looks lifeless.

I mean you got only one plant? I killed two cattleyas. Can't help. Buy another one. Our weather do not allow us to grow catts.
Do not love them so much. Just forget about. They are very
dangerous people and oncidiums are easy for me.

Sometimes there are hidden eyes so it's worth caring for and hopeing another starts. My Zygo looked like there were no eyes left and the plant was almost dead... but it's put out two new growths from eyes I could not see until they started growing.

No, I have plenty of catts, they are great in our climate (temperate). Plenty of dendrobiums (which are a natural for Aust. )Oncidiums, a Vuylstekeara, Vandas, Bowringianas, and 1 Coelogyne cristata, plus plenty of Blc's.
