Sources for flasks or compots?
Hi friends! I think I asked this in another thread, but now cannot find the helpful reply given where someone suggested where I could find flasks of new hybrids of pretty little orchids?
Besides the sources (online links) of where I could purchase baby orchids, is there any "type" you suggest I start with when growing my first babies, or is it really just a matter of preference?
Thanks all!

Troy Meyers is quite popular https://lab.troymeyers.com/flasking/home.php
And there are flasks for sale on ebay as well. I'm sure there are members who can recommend - or not - particular sellers.
I haven't ventured into the worlds of flasks, so I'm not sure about recommendations. I do believe I have read that Phals reach bloom size in general faster than many other types of orchids, so might be something to consider. I'm sure others will have recommendations. good luck

Well, Troy Meyers sells species exclusively.
For hybrids, there are lots of sources out there, and many choices. I don't know your preferences, but I've found that catt alliance is easier out of flask, but I've heard that phalaenopsis take A LOT less time to bloom from flask.
some sources: Well, 4331 steven on ebay is the laelia guru, and he is selling some laelia purpurata crosses (not hybrids though). Ummmmm...there's also bigleaforchids.com for phalaenopsis hybrid flasks and he's top-notch. There's also ruben in orchids who goes by the ID of topmacsniper on ebay.
Good luck--flasks are addicting.

You might try Hausermanns in the Chicago area or Carmela in Hawaii for hybrids. Hausermanns usually has Phal compots available (I don't know about flasks) while Carmela is a good place for Catts & such. I haven't looked lately but Carmela used to sell on ebay by the name of 'Pea & Shell'. Good luck with your babies!

Thank you Jerry! I looked at Hauserman's and they have a lot to choose from, mostly flasks but no compots, but I will keep looking! I like the idea of taking a flask and making it into a compot, with the hopes that I could grow something out of it, but it might be better for me to not spend as much on my first try, lol!
Carmela's does have compots, but I'm curious how many would be in a pot... do you know? They advertise "plug trays"... what exactly is that? They have a lot of dendrobiums too which I was looking for! Thank you for this link... I'm excited to get something from them!
Thanks so much for your direction!

hehe - yeah - she does have good prices - the downside is shipping from Hawaii , but she doesn't charge any more for shipping than any other Hawaiian vendors - so still pretty good! I always drool over her auctions lol
Dang - feeling the urge to go look now
