This is a Epidendrum nocturnum we found in the Fakahatchee. We tapped the pod with a stick to get the shot. But cool just the same

I have read of groups in other parts of the US (mid-west I think -- Ohio ?) going as far as hand pollinating the local endangered orchids, collecting seed pods, etc, etc to eventually years later replant seedlings.
Are there any efforts to 'assist' nature in the strand to increase the orchid populations ?

Yes,Charile. I have read that a group named The Friends of the Fakahatchee where trying to add more Cyrtopodium punctatum. Which I have never seen within the strand. I don't know if they where successful.
