Vicente didn't answer my mail yet (about time to germination), but about watering I can answer for him: in Maricá weather, growing outdoors, these plants need only mist, and not so much (tropical rainy weather); because the rain, only seeds (by serendipity) settled deeply in the fissures, or in the bottom of trunk, were able to germinate. This kind of symbiotic germination is similar to orchid propagation usually did before asymbiotic propagation (flask and gel), discovered by Knudson in 1922, become widespread.

Vicente e-mail me the information about the time for germination: more or less 3 months too see the seedlings and 4 months to take the pics.

Seems to me it is quicker than the germination in the flask. Am I right?

Yes, I think its a little bit faster, but keep in mind the optimal weather and 'habitat' conditions; look at this another pic and you see seedlings in different stages of development, the bigger one (in focus) with a strong root! Vicente (and me) thinks another seeds will germinate yet (we guess)!

Yes, of couse, you have optimal conditions for growing these beauties. I wish I were in Brazil!

Thanks Frederico for the information. I believe that is also possible to obtain the same result in a greenhouse, but with natural optimal condition is the best.

Marcos (another friend) send me these pics, showing C. forbesi (again!) seeds germination in a palm trunk ('Areca-bambu', Dypsis lutescens). I think forbesi is an obvious easy choice if you gonna try...(the pics are posted after Marcos kindly permission).
