To flask or not reflask?

Hi

I have 3 mother flasks of Phal wilsonii. They are not heavily planted as you can see.

I wonder if I should reflask or not. I have not perfected my flasking techniques without contaminations and this species is damn rare in Australia. So I so dont want to lose it.

If I dont reflask, will I loose any? I know some look a bit packed together. I am trying to find a lab in Bangkok to reflask and spread them, but the labs here dont like to do anything other than pod to delivery as they are rather pidgeon holed in the way they do things.

I don't think you need to worry about space too much. But I'm not sure what type of media you're using and that would dictate whether you need to replate them now or later. If the media you're using is formulated more for germination rather than replating, you may encounter a problem with the plants browning out. Just my .

Besides, it looks like you did a good job in flasking the seeds, so you should be able to replate without losing them all.

I agree, they don't look too crowded. They could be ok in there for a while but they will grow really slowly on germiation medium.

Hi and thanks for the information.

The media is Westerns W3 with Banana. The media is for sowing and reflasking - mixed at the same rates. Coconut can be added to speed growth up if wanted I think.

I guess I am just worried about loosing them as I have had a contamination issue lately that I am trying to resolve. I was getting contaminations in new unopened flasks, but it may have just been that I did not have the autoclave hot enough. The latest batch of flasks if is fine.

The main reason for reflasking was that I was also worried about loosing plants due to overcrowding later on.. Seem they should be ok for a while though.

Banana is better for fast growth than coconut so they should have plenty of sugar to use for a while. Coconut has some natural pant hormones and is good for species that don't like banana. It sounds like what you used should work well.

I have thought about getting the larger of the flasks reflasked as mini-flasks of 4 or 5 plants as I have had many people ask me for some of these. The trouble is getting a lab to reflask a flask of your making. They only like to do pod to final flask services.
