Vanda Tissue Culture anyone?

Hey, what's up everyone. I've been looking into tissue culture and specifically with vandas.I plan on starting within the next couple of weeks.
I haven't been able to find much on the internet or here. So maybe someone here is doing it and not posting? Anyway I would love some feedback on this subject even if it's with another orchid genus. Thanks

Tissue culture is a broad term. Do you have a specific question? I've never done it with orchids myself but the process is similar to sowing seed. Flasking orchid seed is really embryo culture, and cloning is (in orchids) almost always meristem culture specifically. The active growing tip is carefully removed and placed on a medium to induce proliferation/multiplication. The main difference between orchid types will be the location of the best active meristem, and the media on which you grow it.

Cattleya meristems are best taken from a new "eye" as it is swelling at the base of the previous growth. Phals have only one meristem on the plant - the crown. BUT, there are dormant meristems on the inflorescence. I don't know the protocol for Vandas, but I would imagine that they would be similar to Phals.

Remove the spike and prepare the nodes with dormant, undifferentiated growths.
Remove the bract covering the meristem.
Disinfect.
Place on multiplication media to induce proliferation (from Phytotech.)
Continue to multiply OR replate on different media to induce roots and leaves.

One of our members has really taken to it for propagating rare Cryptocoryne he and I brought back from Europe 2 years ago. We have a TC forum on our site that may be of help. It's about half-way down the forum list.

Hey guys, sorry I didn't get any emails and I had not seen your replies.
Thanks a lot for your links and information. I had seen plenty of tissue culture information and even found some on orchids but none on vandas.
I'll check those links and get back to you. I'll probably sell some and give some away.
I have a bunch now from flasks and maybe it's time to set them free

Ray,I am back in school and taking some horticulture and plant pathology classes. I am hoping to find time to do some TC soon.I'm not equiped yet. When I'm ready I would love to take on your Ascocenda.
