Protocorms - the meaning of fear
Hi Everyone
I ordered some protocorms of Phal Kunstlerii, Leudemannia, Violacea etc from a friend and then he gave me two free flasks on top.
Imagine my shock when I saw how many protocorms per flasks. He estimates I can make 50 normal flasks from each one. My god, I have five flasks and just thinking of making 50 flasks in one sitting scares me silly
I think I will entrust these babies to a lab to get it done and save my neck and back hahhah...

The picture of the last flask is Phal Corningiana "red" x "Dark Red". I have 2 mother flasks like that. As 1 flask can make up to 50 (40 plant) flasks, I have thought about breaking up the 2nd mother flasks as just protocorms in tubes for anyone who wants them. I am still mulling it over and wonder if anyone would be interested?

Hi
I need to find some good tubes to send with. Ones that I can autoclave. Right now I have Microfuge tubes, but they are a little small. I need to work out how much I want per tube. I will PM anyone who is interested once I know.
As for cost of shipping. I will get a phyto certificate to go with the tube/s. Phytos dont cost a lot here (US$1.50) and I can just send tubes to anyone who wants them all at the same time. I recommend EMS to ship with as it is a 3 to 5 day service (excluding customs time). As it will be under 12 flasks, there is no need for an import cert to the USA. I had a look at the Thailand post site and postage for a padded envelope/envelope would be no more than $30, possibly less. I will check it out though on the weekend.
If anyone is ever interest, I can get flasks here too at good prices - just PM me. I dont really sell flasks as a business, but get them if anyone asks as I live near several sellers and Jatjak market.

Hi
I am happy to send the protocorms to any country as long as I can send by EMS. As for your countries import laws, I think you need a phyto certificate like most countries, but I do not know your rules regarding the need for import certificates. Normally import certificates, you get at your relevant office in your home country, then fax/email me a copy of it to include with the shipment. You will need to find out if you need one or not.
I am happy to send to you though.
At the moment I am looking at flasking the other protocorms I have at a nearby lab. I have Phal Kunstlerii, and Violacea (a nortons indigo blue x pink form of "Krystelle") and the Corningiana. I hope they will also do my P. Wilsonii in miniflasks for me

Canada definitely needs phyto certs and import certs, which are a pain in the behind, particularly when it applies to orchids in flask, which is absolutely idiotic. When it comes to pointless laws like these (stupid waste of tax payer money, with little-no repercussion on my end besides perhaps a bit of lost money and plants), I feel free to break them. Chances are if it's a small package, it will get through customs without incident, as long as there isn't an obvious label on the package stating 'PLANT MATERIAL'...but whether you can get the seller to fudge this or not is up to the sender's moral/ethical/whatever judgment. Just my

Hey Brett,
Are you planning to send the protocorms in tubes free of media? If so, you can avoid the autoclave issue by getting 1.5ml ependorf tubes from companies like sarstedt. We use these for freezing down cells etc... and they are guaranteed sterile.
Not sure whether the protocorms would be able to survive the shipping without media, but perhaps it would be ok if they were reflasked immediately upon receipt?
