Hi Marty.

I'm afraid I can't help, but I'm going to move your post to the propagation sub-forum because you might get more people who can help see it there.

I use it all the time now.

However...

Plant Preservative Mixture (PPM) is not a cure all for flasking.

It's a great preventative measure.

Good flasking habits prevents contamination from occurring most of the times.

PPM nearly eliminates the problem in my experience.

Be careful not to overdose, or it will be counterproductive.

If you get a flask that is contaminated, and you try using PPM, it may not work.

Quote is from the writer Tolken not unknown. The ppm is the bomb if you replate personally.

I have used it with mixed results. Mostly I have used it with re-flasks on flasks shipped from overseas. It does reduce contaminations rates for sure.

I have also use it to soak lightly contaminated plants overnight (mixed with sterile water) and reflask the next day. Mixed success rates again.

I found I got slightly better results with a quick bath in hydrogen peroxide 3%. Leaves still burnt a bit, but rescue measures with PPM also do the same.

I will try some in my sowing media as I still get the odd bad batch when sowing.

I do have some mixed results myself. I still find it most helpful on the small scale I operate within.

PPM is only needed if the user is unable to eliminate contaminants via conventional sterilization techniques, or in cases of endogenous contamination (usually in tissue culture). It will help, but there is no substitute for sterilization and good asceptic technique.

It's kind of like drain cleaners. They may work (to some degree) to unclog a pipe, but drain cleaner is not needed if the pipe never clogs in the first place.

I agree 100% it is not to be used as a replacement for sterile techniques, but it does help me personally to avoid that possibility of even a small amount of contamination.

It is nice to see another good review for this product. It does have its place, and those that use it seem to like it. Is it pricey?
