Limiting infection when reflasking - how

I've used that method previously but always had mixed results. Also my wife doesn't like me clogging up her kitchen area with all my orchid stuff

I've just built myself a glove box similar to Brett's example posted in another thread however I've gone for a design that creates a near air-tight seal. Hopefully that and the use of some hypochlorite or peroxide will be enough to eradicate infection. I'm not working in large enough quantities to justify a LFH so I'll experiment with this for the moment.

You can also have a open fire (burner) next to your flasks to avoid contaminations. You can have teh fire very close (2 - 3 inches) to the mouth of the flasks. This also helps a lot, and could be placed in the glove box (depending of teh size of your box, of course). The use of a burner is also common even in LFHs, and can be used for quick desinfection of the tools too.

I tried using a glove box, but had poor results. Even though it was airtight as I could make it, using lots of disinfectant spray when flasking, I could not avoid contamination.

The laminar flow certainly improved things. I rarely have issues now. I also wipe the laminar screen over with a little alcohol before starting it up.
