Default Coelogyne Shilleriana - Germination

Hi Everyone

I have Coelogyne Shilleriana seed that has germinated. It was very rapid at about 1 month from sowing. Pics attached. I did two flasks.

Interestingly, the flask that I sowed lightly has germinated better in that the seed shows little shoots. The heavily sown flask - ooops, got heavy handed - has germinated, but is less vigorous. I wonder if I should attempt to reflask it now., The seedlings are not much bigger than seed so far, but are really green.

The other flask is much bigger. I think they can grow for some time in this flask.

I will post pics of the heavy sown flask tomorrow.

Brett

Wow, I've never seen that sort of thing (I've never tried germinating seeds).

It's really interesting to see, they are SO tiny!

I am quite please with this result. I hope the heavy sown flask can shape up the same way.

I used W1 media from Western Orchid Laboritory in Australia http://www.westernorchids.com.au/tis...aformulae.html You can get this media from a the OSP in the USA http://members.cox.net/osp/osp/media/media.html

Western Orchids have W3 for terrestrials and others, but I didnt have it at the time.

This is the heavily sown flask. Should I try to move some of the seed to new flasks so that it is more widely spead? It seems to be growing, but far slower. Or is it better to wait and hope it develops into larger seedlings first?
