I get you now, Brett. I was picturing a propane torch (ie the type of torch you use for soldering) rather than a BBQ lighter. Very impressed by your ingenuity.

As you can see in the pic, it worked well. No sign of recontamination. The only thing is that the lighter went out a few times while doing it and dont get the water washing around the infected area if there is any in the flask. You dont want to transfer the infection to another area.
