I tried this before with no luck. There were green white stuff growing like (mold/fungus?). Should spraying physan prevented this? Should you spray daily? Does it really work? thanks, leo

i also have a phal which needs this treatment. i live in a tropical area. so, there is over 90% humidity all the time.
so, just wanna ask that can i wrap the orchids roots in a towellete soaked in rooting hormone ? and giving it warm environment and keep its crown dry? will it recover and send out new roots and create new foliage?
please reply as soon as you can.

I've been treating a phal for over a month using a damp paper towel and ziplock bag and have had continuing problems with mold/fungus. Now one of its two leaves is turning yellow and I think it's only a matter of time before it falls off. What can I do at this stage? The remaining roots (1 or 2 one-inch long) look pretty much the same as at the beginning of the process. Should I give it another root hormone treatment? I really don't want to give up! Thanks, everybody, for weighing in!

If you are over 90%, the sphag-n-bag should not be necessary! If it were me I would just occasionally dunk the plant and wait till it responds. 90% is very high and would lead to mold in a bag.

If you have, or can get, some Physan 20, spray the towels and plant heavily with this to get rid of the mold. I suspect the plant isn't getting the air (especially the roots) that it needs. Try opening the bag for 10-15 minutes each day (preferably in late afternoon) then reseal. Or try a "sort of seal" with a small air passage left. The whole idea here is to slow the transpiration and minimize wilting - not to create a super saturated environment where mold grows. Another shot of KLN might help, but shouldn't be necessary, in my opinion.

Ross--Would RD20 (or another fungicide) be considered equivalent to Physan 20? I can get RD20 fairly easily but not Physan. Do you spray it full strength or diluted? Many thanks!! I'm getting hopeful again!

R-D-20 and Physan are nearly identical.

Read the instructions on dilution!!! Straight from the bottle will kill any living thing.
